Holistic Counselling & Psychotherapy
About Me
Cecilia Tankey is a holistic counsellor and psychotherapist in West Footscray & Melbourne's Inner West offering trauma‑informed, whole‑person therapy, supporting individuals and couples.
My work is guided by a deep commitment to creating a safe, sacred space where clients can explore, heal, and reconnect with themselves. I meet each person exactly where they are, honouring their unique pace and process, and offering a therapeutic presence that is attuned and compassionate.

As a holistic practitioner, I work with the whole person — body, mind, soul, spirit, relationships, and environment. This whole‑body and whole‑world approach supports clients to reconnect with themselves, build resilience, and create meaningful, sustainable change. I believe healing is a shared journey, and I walk alongside clients with compassion, curiosity, and a deep respect for their innate wisdom.

Across my career, I have worked in mental health services, crisis counselling, community organisations, and private practice. I bring extensive experience in supporting people experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, life transitions, and relationship challenges. My work integrates evidence‑informed therapeutic modalities with a grounded, relational presence.

As an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker, I am Medicare‑registered and able to offer rebates for clients who are referred by their GP under a Mental Health Treatment Plan. This helps make therapy more accessible and supports people to receive the care they need in a timely and affordable way

COUNSELLING METHODS

Evidence-based Support
For Change, Growth &Â Healing
I work with people across the lifespan, including adults, young people and couples. My approach is warm, empowering, and grounded in practical, evidence‑based strategies that support clients to navigate challenges and create meaningful change. I offer holistic support that considers the whole person — their inner world, relationships, family system, community, culture, and environment.

My approach is informed by Jungian depth psychology and integrates elements of interpersonal therapy, narrative therapy, somatic and body‑based practices, mindfulness‑based approaches, gestalt principles, field theory, and cognitive‑behavioural techniques. This integrative style allows me to tailor therapy to each individual’s needs, honouring their unique story and supporting healing on emotional, physical, relational, and spiritual levels.

Process Oriented Psychology
Following The River's Way
Process Oriented Psychology is an awareness‑based therapeutic model that supports us to work with our deepest experiences and integrate both the conscious and less‑conscious aspects of self. It is grounded in the understanding that there is an innate intelligence within the subconscious — an intelligence expressed through our behaviours, dreams, chronic physical symptoms, relationship patterns, and the subtle signals that shape our everyday lives. This approach recognises that an organising principle is always at work in the background, guiding us toward growth and wholeness.

In my practice, I draw on a range of creative and experiential methods to work in a process‑oriented way. I follow your unique process with curiosity and respect, and together we explore dreams, body symptoms, relationship dynamics, and life disturbances as meaningful pathways toward greater awareness. This work supports clients to discover insight, cultivate hope, and create long‑lasting, transformative change.

Grief, Loss & Trauma Counselling
For Deep Healing
I have extensive experience supporting clients through grief, loss, and trauma. Grief is a natural and necessary emotional response to loss, change, and bereavement, and it can touch every part of our lives.

Bereavement refers to the death of someone significant, yet loss can take many forms. It may arise through life transitions such as children leaving home, retirement, moving house, career changes, ageing parents, relationship breakdowns, illness or disability in oneself or a loved one, infertility, or miscarriage. These experiences can profoundly affect our sense of identity, stability, and meaning.

Trauma brings its own form of loss — often a loss of safety, trust, worthiness, or belief in a predictable and meaningful world. Trauma may stem from experiences such as violence, sexual abuse, accidents, or war‑related events, and can leave individuals feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or fundamentally changed.

Grief is deeply personal, and no two people grieve in the same way. Grief, loss, and trauma counselling offers a safe, supportive space to share your story, express your emotions, and begin to make sense of what has happened. Together, we work toward healing, integration, and rediscovering meaning and hope in your life.

Couples Therapy
Working Through Conflict and Deepening Relationships
Relationship conflict asks us to recognise the wisdom that exists in multiple perspectives. In couples therapy, this means cultivating a shared commitment to building a more intentional, conscious, and compassionate relationship.
In my couples work, I offer careful attention, tenderness, and steady guidance. Together, we focus on bringing greater awareness to the relationship, developing intentional patterns of interaction, exploring values and unmet needs, improving communication, and acknowledging the very real challenges of creating a healthy partnership.
This work can be slow and demanding, yet it is profoundly rewarding. Taking this step is an act of courage — an invitation to deepen your capacity for love, connection, and wholeness, both as an individual and within your relationship.

Accredited Mental Health Social Worker
Empowering and Transparent
My work is guided by deep values of fairness, inclusiveness, and the inherent dignity of every person. I uphold the ethics of my profession through honesty, transparency, empathy, and reflective practice. My approach is informed by core social work principles, including an understanding of the person within their environment and the broader social and cultural contexts that shape their lives. I work from a strengths‑based perspective and support people across the lifespan and of all abilities.

I am deeply committed to social justice and to contributing to a more fair and equitable society. When needed, I act as an advocate and change agent for clients and the wider community, ensuring that their voices, rights, and needs are recognised.

My services are inclusive and accessible to all people, regardless of age, cultural background, gender, sexual orientation, or physical or mental abilities. As a Mental Health Social Worker, I can provide Medicare‑rebated sessions with a GP referral, as well as court reports, statutory declarations, advocacy, and consultancy.

Experienced. Certified. Supportive.
I am privileged to work on the unceded lands of the Boonwurring, Woiwurrung and Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nations. I pay my respect to Elders, families and forebearers who are custodians of the land. I value the contributions Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people make in our society, respecting our land as a place of age-old ceremonies, initiation, and renewal, with a vibrant living culture that continues to play a unique role in this region.
